ALL STUDENTS AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    UCSD Libraries Committed to Keeping Geisel Safe

Recent incidents in and adjacent to Geisel Library have caused a number of students to be concerned about safety and the climate in the UCSD Libraries. I am deeply troubled that these hurtful acts have occurred, and sympathize with the students and all members of the campus community who have been impacted.

We at the Libraries understand how distressing these recent incidents have been and are strongly committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming climate for all students and other library patrons. The Libraries are an open and welcoming place for study and reflection for students of all backgrounds, races, and ethnicities. I and my library colleagues will not tolerate acts of hate and intolerance in Geisel or in any of the libraries; any such acts violate Library policy and UCSD's Principles of Community.

The UCSD Libraries will continue to do everything we can to maintain a peaceful and safe climate in all campus libraries. To help maintain a high level of safety, the Libraries have increased patrols throughout Geisel and have increased security staffing. If you or anyone you know witnesses or is a victim of any racist or otherwise hostile acts in any of the Libraries, please notify Library staff immediately.
