In 2009, UC San Diego made the decision to broaden its commitment to the principles of Fair Trade related to food and beverage providers on the main campus.
Over the past year, a group of UC San Diego students, staff, and faculty have worked together to develop a Fair Trade business policy that all providers of food and beverages will be asked to support whenever possible. This policy promotes both sustainable business practices and humane farming.
We are pleased to announce the implementation of this policy. In cooperation with TransFair, the internationally recognized authority on Fair Trade, UC San Diego will be working toward the goal of being designated as a Fair Trade University.
