ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Bicycle and Pedestrian Survey

In collaboration with the City of San Diego, the campus successfully received a grant from the San Diego Association of Governments that will be used to fund a Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Planning Study. Key objectives of the Study will be to inventory and map existing conditions, identify user needs, prepare a bicycle and pedestrian network plan, identify and prioritize key projects and programs, and develop an implementation strategy.

To inform the upcoming work effort, a survey was prepared to solicit input from the campus community to identify key concerns that should be addressed in the Study. If you are interested in participating, the survey can be accessed at http://conta.cc/v9YNNh

A planning advisory committee, consisting of a diverse membership of students, staff and faculty has been convened to oversee the preparation of the Study that is anticipated to be completed by April 2012. Updates will be periodically posted on the Study website (http://ucsdbikepedplan.com/) to allow those interested to track progress and provide feedback.

Given the heightened use of bicycles to and across campus, the preparation of the Study is very timely. I appreciate your input and participation in the planning process to improve access, safety, and circulation.
