SUBJECT:    2011 Kyoto Laureate Symposium

UC San Diego is pleased to join San Diego State University and the
University of San Diego in hosting the 10th annual Kyoto Laureate
Symposium in San Diego from April 4 to 6. As part of the symposium,
recipients of the Kyoto Prize, Japan’s highest private award for global
achievement, will present lectures on their accomplishments.

Renowned mathematician and recipient of the Kyoto laureate in “Basic
Sciences,” László Lovász, will speak at UC San Diego from 3:30 to 5:00
p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, in the Price Center West Ballroom. He will
discuss real-world applications of discrete mathematics, which range
from social networks to the brain.

The other two winners of the Kyoto Prize in “Advanced Technology” and
“Arts and Philosophy” will give presentations at San Diego State
University and the University of San Diego. All lecture events are free
