SUBJECT:    Admit Day, Saturday, April 9, 2011 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Newly admitted freshmen and their families are invited to the UC San Diego campus for Admit Day on Saturday, April 9, 2011. This day-long program typically draws as many as 13,000 visitors to the campus.

The purpose of Admit Day is to showcase the UC San Diego campus and the programs and services of interest to new students, helping them make their final college decisions for Fall 2011. Hosted by UCSD's Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools, this event is an opportunity for admitted students to discover campus life through academic department presentations, workshops, campus tours, housing tours, an Information Fair, and programs at their UCSD undergraduate colleges. Parking is free of charge for the day.

Admit Day begins with Welcome Sessions starting at 8:00 a.m. in the Price Center. Vice Chancellor-Student Affairs Penny Rue, Barbara Sawrey, Associate Vice Chancellor, Undergraduate Education, and Jeffrey L. Elman, Dean of Social Sciences will welcome everyone on behalf of the University. Visitors will also hear from current students: Wafa Ben Hassine, President of Associated Students or one of our college ambassadors.

A special reception and session will be presented for Regents Scholars and their families in the Student Services Center. Dr. Suresh Subramani, Senior Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs will provide the welcome address, and Dr. Albert Yu-Min Lin, B.S.'04, M.S.'06, Ph.D. '08, will be the keynote speaker.

Welcome programs and presentations at each of the six colleges introduce students to their college neighborhoods, to the provost and staff members, and to programs especially geared to students of each college.

Library Walk and Town Square are the sites for Information Fairs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. where visitors have a chance to find out about student organizations and support services, listen to the UCSD Pep Band, meet "King Triton," and enjoy free ice pops handed out by staff members and volunteers.

Mid-day workshops will cover popular topics, including career planning, graduate and professional school services, commuter student issues, financial aid, and campus academic support services. Performances by several student groups will be held in Price Center Plaza from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.

Academic department representatives will present information on majors, academic expectations, and a number of academic opportunities. Our guests can meet with representatives from various campus support services and student organizations at the information fair.

Student-led campus tours will provide a closer look at the highlights of the campus. The tours leave from Library Walk throughout the day, with a special Early Bird Tour from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m.

The Cross-Cultural Center, the Women's Center and the LGBT Resource Center are hosting open-house receptions.

The welcome sessions will be led by Mae Brown, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Admissions and Enrollment Services; Gregory Sneed, Deputy Director, Admissions and Relations with Schools; Shirley Balbin-Stacher, Associate Director, Admissions and Relations with Schools.

Admit Day provides students and their families with an inside look at the campus and the many services and opportunities awaiting them at UC San Diego. All members of the campus community are encouraged to join in welcoming newly admitted students and their families to our campus on April 9.
