Search Committee for Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

As part of our efforts to create a more welcoming, diverse and inclusive campus community, we are moving forward with the search process to hire a Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (VC EDI). A search committee has been formed to identify candidates and a list of committee members can be found at: http://academicaffairs.ucsd.edu/evc/vcedi.html The website also provides an in-depth description of how the national search will work and the role and responsibilities of the newly created position.

Given the breadth and complexity of the new Vice Chancellor role, the search committee members will conduct a number of listening sessions with key campus and community constituents to elicit input that will help them as they establish interview questions and evaluate candidate responses to those questions. The committee will conduct a national search with the assistance of Dr. Jan Greenwood and Ms. Marion Frenche of Greenwood/Asher and Associates, Inc.

We seek a strong, creative and innovative leader to establish a campus-wide diversity office responsible for addressing diversity in all aspects of the UC San Diego mission, including outreach, recruitment, retention and climate. Upon assuming the position, the VC EDI will engage in an initial period of evaluation and study and will ultimately recommend to the Executive Vice Chancellor a strategic plan for strengthening existing programs, developing new programs, and outlining an institutional research framework for assessing program effectiveness over time. In collaboration with University Development, the VC EDI will lead fundraising activities to support and enhance these important initiatives.

The VC EDI will report to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Chancellor, and also will serve as a member of the Chancellor's Cabinet.
