SUBJECT:    Interim Director of the Center for Research in Computing and
the Arts (CRCA)

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Shahrokh Yadegari as Interim Director of the Center for Research in Computing and the Arts, an Organized Research Unit at UCSD, effective August 1, 2011.

Shahrokh Yadegari is currently a member of the UCSD faculty in the department of Theatre and Dance, where he has founded a new progressive program in Sound Design. He has performed, and his music and sound designs have been presented in numerous venues both in the United States and internationally. He also has had extensive experience as a senior software architect in the computer industry. Professor Yadegari will oversee the closure of the existing Center and will broadly consult with a wide group of cross disciplinary faculty to lead the development of a new proposal for an ORU in the arts.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Professor Sheldon Brown for his twelve years of service as CRCA's director. During his tenure, the Center moved to a new performance and research space within Atkinson Hall, and expanded into research areas in next generation digital media, experimental computer games, future cinema, networked multimedia, and science/art collaborations.
