ALL ACADEMICS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Policy on Integrity of Scholarship

Welcome to the start of a new academic year. We would like to take this opportunity to connect with you regarding Academic Integrity at UC San Diego. As a reminder of the Academic Senate's Policy on Integrity of Scholarship, faculty members are responsible for:

* stating in writing how graded assignments and exams will contribute to the final grade in the course;
* stating in writing any course-specific rules required for maintaining academic integrity; and,
* reporting suspected academic integrity violations to the Academic Integrity Office.

We also recommend that you spend some time talking about academic integrity with your students, not just at the beginning of each quarter but each time an assignment is due or an exam is taking place.

The Academic Integrity Office, directed by Dr. Tricia Bertram Gallant, is available to assist you in doing any of the above, as well as sharing best practices to enhance integrity in your classes, reduce cheating, and respond to cheating when it occurs. There is a wealth of information available that you can access at any time at http://academicintegrity.ucsd.edu, however, if you would like to attend a Faculty Information Session planned by Dr. Bertram Gallant, we invite you to choose one of the following sessions:

1. Monday, October 8, 4-5:30 p.m.
2. Thursday, October 11, 8-9:30 a.m.
3. Tuesday, October 16, 4-5:30 p.m.
4. Wednesday, October 17, 12-1:30 p.m.

All of the sessions will be held in the new Academic Integrity Office (located in 301 University Center) and refreshments will be served. Teaching assistants are also welcome to attend. All interested are asked to RSVP to aic@ucsd.edu.

If you cannot attend any of these sessions but would like a consult with Dr. Bertram Gallant, you may contact her at aic@ucsd.edu.
