SUBJECT:    April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April has been designated as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Sexual assault is an issue that impacts our entire community. The goal of SAAM is to raise awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals about their role in prevention.

Some of the main events at UC San Diego during SAAM include:

· April 3: National Day of Action

· April 12: Take Back the Night Walk/Run – 7 p.m., Library Walk

· April 25: Denim Day of Awareness – 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.,
Huerta-Vera Cruz Room

· April 26: Take Back The Night Speakout– 7 p.m., PC Plaza

In recognition of SAAM, one hour of administrative leave with pay has been approved that employees may apply to their attendance at a Sexual Assault Awareness Month event. Supervisors may allow one hour of administrative leave with pay for staff to participate during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, so long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.

SAAM events are co-sponsored by a number of organizations and departments at UC San Diego including: the Sexual Assault & Violence Prevention Resource Center, Women’s Center, A.S. Women’s Commission, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Resource Center, Cross-Cultural Center, Critical Gender Studies Program, Student Health Services, Student Health Advocates, Counseling and Psychological Services Wellness Peer Educators, Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on the Status of Women, The Council of Coordinators of Student Activities, Office for the Prevention of Harassment & Discrimination, The Zone, Health, Recreation & Well-being, Office of the Vice Chancellor – Student Affairs.
