OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR –
May 29, 2012
As faculty, staff and students return to classrooms, residence halls and laboratories following the Memorial Day holiday, the campus continues its recovery from a campus-wide power outage caused by a serious transformer fire at the east campus power station on Saturday, May 26. Facilities Maintenance and Environmental Health & Safety crews, along with their counterparts in Health Sciences and Scripps Institution of Oceanography, have worked to restore power and assess the damage. An investigation of the cause of the fire is still underway.
If you return to campus to find lingering issues with facilities, please contact Facilities Maintenance at x42930. Housing issues should be directed to the Housing Customer Service Center at 42600. Serious but non-emergency issues regarding research should be directed to your appropriate academic dean’s office.
As the power outage affected web-based programs that support teaching, we encourage faculty to be mindful of the downtime and its effect on students’ course work.
We want to express our appreciation to all staff, faculty and students who assisted as we worked to restore power.
