SUBJECT:    Search for the Director of the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC)

A search for the next Director of the UCSD Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) is commencing, and I am pleased to invite applications and nominations for this position. The new Director will succeed Susan Shirk, who will leave the position after six years of service during her most recent tenure. Director Shirk has held the position a number of times since 1991, and we thank her for her exemplary service to IGCC and to UC San Diego.

Established in 1983, IGCC has generated innovative research into the causes of international conflict and cooperation. IGCC's original emphasis on security and nuclear nonproliferation remains at its core, however its agenda has broadened with time. Today, IGCC researchers study a wide range of topics involving the security, environmental, and economic policies that shape our ability to prevent conflict and promote cooperation. Information about IGCC may be viewed at http://igcc.ucsd.edu.

The IGCC Director oversees programmatic planning, as well as fiscal and operational management of the Institute. The Director reports to the Vice Chancellor for Research.

Candidates must have a distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and service appropriate for the appointment and hold a tenured faculty position at UCSD. Applications and nominations may be sent to the attention of the committee chair, Peter Cowhey, at (pcowhey@ucsd.edu) by June 1, 2012.
