Video Available For Viewing --- Academic Freedom Symposium

On Thursday, May 17, 2012 Executive Vice Chancellor Suresh Subramani and Academic Senate Chair Joel Sobel co-hosted a symposium on Academic Freedom. The symposium provided an opportunity to openly and broadly discuss the concept of academic freedom and its application as we attempt to meet the mission of the university.

The symposium included one of the nation's top legal scholars, Matthew W. Finkin as keynote speaker. He holds the Albert J. Harno and Edward W. Cleary Chair in Law at the University of Illinois. He was joined on the panel by Patrick Fox, Professor of Sociology and Health Policy at UC San Francisco and former chair of the University Committee on Academic Freedom, and Ms. Ann Franke, Esq. of Wise Results, LLC, a national consulting practice devoted to legal and risk-management issues facing educational institutions. Ms. Franke has agreed to help us extend the conversation and will return in the Fall to facilitate a workshop with Academic Senate leaders and key academic administrators.
