SUBJECT:    Coming Soon - New Online Material Transfer Agreement Request

System (eMTA) In cooperation with the Office of Contract & Grant Administration and the Technology Transfer Office, UC San Diego's Electronic Research Administration Program (eRAP) will soon be launching a new electronic Material Transfer Agreement (eMTA) system to replace the current paper-based process. Launch of this new initiative is planned for mid-summer 2012.

MTAs are legal agreements between UC San Diego and external parties that establish terms and conditions for the transfer of tangible research materials and, most importantly, protect the rights of both the providing or recipient researchers and the university.

The new system is being designed from the ground up to make the MTA request and finalization process more efficient and streamlined for faculty and staff users by consolidating access to new inbound and outbound material-transfer request forms while providing process transparency.

With its user-friendly interface and branching 'smart forms,' the new eMTA system will:

* Reduce time researchers and support staff currently spend filling out forms

* Accelerate the internal review and approval process for MTA transactions

* Provide real-time visibility of the status of all new MTA requests.

More information about the new eMTA system can be found on http://mta.ucsd.edu./. Live demonstrations and training information will be available at Sharecase on August 29th.

For more information about the soon-to-be-implemented eMTA system, please contact Nicole Joyce at njoyce@ucsd.edu or 858-534-9112.
