Two-Year Renewal - Policy on Supplement to Military Pay

The University is proposing to renew for a two-year period, effective July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2014, the Policy on Supplement to Military Pay.

Eligible employees under the Policy on Supplement to Military Pay are those who serve on active military duty in the War on Terror campaign. Under the policy, the University provides eligible employees with supplemental payments equal to the difference between the employees' University base pay and their military pay and allowances until the end of an employee's tour of active military duty, until June 30, 2014, or until the separation date of an employee's University appointment, whichever comes first. The University also continues to pay the UC contribution to employees' health plan premiums while an employee is eligible for benefits under the policy. Benefits provided under the policy are subject to a two-year lifetime limit.

Employees who are not eligible for supplemental payments because their military pay and allowances exceed their University wages may elect to continue UC health plan coverage while on military leave and the University will continue to pay the UC contribution to those plans if the employee continues to make the employee contribution.

Academic appointees who wish to comment on the proposal may e-mail their comments to Academic Personnel Services at academicpersonnel@ucsd.edu while staff personnel may e-mail their comments to the Human Resources Department at employeerelations@ucsd.edu. Comments should be provided by June 15, 2012.
