SUBJECT:    Campus Electrical Utility System – Fire Repairs Complete

In May 2012, fire severely damaged a portion of the campus’ main electrical distribution system. Resource Management & Planning staff have been working diligently since that time to restore the campus electrical system to full capability. Repair work has been completed and UC San Diego’s electrical grid is fully functional and reliable. We would like to thank the campus community for its support and cooperation during these repairs.

While it should be noted that normal high-voltage system maintenance requires periodic circuit switching, the ongoing grid integrity/emergency power projects (expected to be completed by December 2013) and new building construction have temporarily increased the need for additional electrical switching. We will continue to notify the campus when this work is scheduled.
