cordially invite all Academic Senate Members to a

Faculty Budget Education Workshop II
Wednesday, April 24, 2013
4:00 - 5:30 pm
Fung Auditorium (1st Floor)
Powell-Focht Bioengineering Hall
Warren Mall

The workshop follows up on the one presented last October and will focus primarily on UCSD and the changing budget challenges it faces.

Please note that it will be held in the Fung Auditorium, 1st Floor. The presentation will subsequently be available on the Academic Senate website (http://senate.ucsd.edu/).

Topics:

* New Budget Climate in Sacramento
* UCSD Growth & Recent Trends
* Changing Research Funding Environment (Sequestration)
* Uncertain Clinical Revenue Environment (Obamacare)
* New Constraints Due to Rising Mandatory Costs
* ICR, UCRP, UCPath, New Composite Benefit Rates
* Academic VC Areas & Their Funding Models

In light of the passage of Proposition 30 that avoided additional budget cuts, the new political climate in Sacramento, the on-going campus-wide Strategic Planning Initiative, uncertain research and clinical revenue environments, and new direct costs for campus budgets including research grants, it seems opportune to host a second workshop for faculty on the financial challenges facing our campus. It will consist of a 45-minute presentation by Roddey Reid, Chair, Committee on Planning and Budget followed by a Q & A session.
