10th Annual International Education Week (IEW) Celebration

We invite and encourage all faculty, staff and students to participate in International Education Week to be held this year from November 17-21. IEW is as an opportunity to celebrate world cultures, peoples, and language while affirming the critical role that international education and exchange play in fostering mutual understanding and world peace.

Inaugurated by President Bill Clinton in 2000, IEW is a joint initiative between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education. IEW is celebrated annually in more than 100 countries across the world to symbolize the importance of global exchange and cross-cultural learning.

IEW will commence on Monday, Nov. 17, with a grand opening ceremony featuring a keynote address by Consul General of Mexico Remedios Gómez Arnau, a concert by the band Todo Mundo and a variety of international food trucks. Additional featured events during the week include TEDxUCSD, an International Fashion Festival, Triton World Cup, Open Air Film Festival and Closing Ceremony as part of the weekly Friday Café.

In recognition of the 10th anniversary of this annual event, one hour of administrative leave with pay has been approved so that employees may attend one or more IEW events. Supervisors are asked to allow employees one hour of administrative leave with pay when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.
