ACADEMIC COMPUTING & TELECOMMUNICATIONS

December 1, 2014

ALL ACADEMICS AND STAFF AT UC SAN DIEGO (excluding UCSD Health System)

Subject:    Unification of IT Services

One of the goals laid out in UC San Diego's first-ever strategic plan highlighted the need for an agile, sustainable, and supportive IT infrastructure. In support of this strategic goal, we are implementing an IT unification plan, which aims at building an effective and efficient enterprise IT organization that is both flexible and highly scalable to meet the growing IT needs of UC San Diego, and is also proactive in adopting new models and technologies that deliver efficient and effective IT services while enabling new strategic capabilities.

The initial scope of the IT unification include six IT units across three vice chancellors' areas:
  - VC-CFO IT units:
    Chancellor's Complex IT;
    Human Resources IT;
    Business Financial Services IT;
    Housing, Dining and Hospitality IT
  - Resource Management and Planning IT
  - University Advancement IT

The IT unification process began on November 3 and the staff in these six IT units have joined the Administrative Computing & Telecommunications (ACT).
