SUBJECT:    April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is designated as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Sexual assault is an issue that affects our entire community. The goal of SAAM is to raise awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals about their role in prevention.

Some of the main events at UC San Diego during SAAM include:

* April 17: 3rd Annual SAAM 3K - 6:30 p.m., Library Walk

* April 21: Denim Day Art Exhibit Reception - 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.,
Cross-Cultural Center

* April 22: Take Back The Night- 7:00 p.m., Price Center Plaza

In recognition of SAAM, one hour of administrative leave with pay has been approved that employees may apply to their attendance at a Sexual Assault Awareness Month event. Supervisors may allow one hour of administrative leave with pay for staff to participate during Sexual Assault Awareness Month, so long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.

SAAM events are organized and supported by a number of organizations and departments at UC San Diego including: the Sexual Assault & Violence Prevention Resource Center, Women's Center, A.S. Women's Commission, Chancellor's Advisory Committee on the Status of Women. For more information, please visit http://sarc.ucsd.edu.
