SUBJECT:    Expanded Sexual Assault and Violence Prevention Services at UC San Diego

After 25 years of successfully providing service to UC San Diego students, UC San Diego’s Sexual Assault and Violence Prevention Resource Center (SARC) is expanding its services to provide crisis intervention services and advocacy to faculty and staff, in addition to students. Due to the expansion of responsibilities and the call to action by University of California President Janet Napolitano to have a system-wide consistent model for the prevention and response to sexual assault and violence, SARC has changed its name to CARE: Advocacy Office for Sexual and Gender-Based Violence and Misconduct (CARE). CARE will continue to provide educational services to all campus members and, as of January 1, 2015, reports to the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer.

The CARE Advocacy Office is an independent confidential campus resource which provides education and support services for those impacted by sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. CARE will serve as the primary point of contact for victims and survivors who need advocacy, support services and/or assistance with reporting options. All members of the University community who receive information or reports from victims/survivors will take proactive steps to refer individuals to the CARE Advocacy Office.

For more information, visit care.ucsd.edu or call 858.534.5793.

UC San Diego is dedicated to creating a safe and respectful community through awareness, education and prevention of sexual assault and violence.
