SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT - University Center Bike and Pedestrian Improvements Project

Project Description/Location:

Construction of bicycle and pedestrian improvements to Peterson Hill, and the addition of a bicycle bypass in the grove south of Peterson Hill, will start February 2, 2015 with anticipated completion before September 2015. The improvements will provide new hardscape and landscape improvements, grove reforestation, pedestrian walkways, bicycle lanes and accessible ramps.

Immediate Street Traffic, Bicycle and Pedestrian Impacts:

East and west pedestrian circulation from Ridge Walk to Library Walk at Peterson Hall and the Faculty Club will be significantly impacted for a period of at least six months. We recognize this is a major circulation element and have taken measures to provide a safe alternative pathway during this period. We understand this is a significant inconvenience, but it is necessary in order to construct these much needed improvements.

A construction fence will enclose all sides of this project including Peterson Hill, the grove as far south to Mandeville Lane, west towards Faculty Club and east to Library Walk. Pedestrians are required to follow any detour signs and walk on existing sidewalks as posted. Bicyclists are required to follow signs, dismount on crowded walks, and remain alert near construction areas.
