SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT – La Jolla Medical Center Outpatient Pavilion Construction Start Notice

Project Description/Location:

The UC San Diego Health System is developing a 140,000 square foot facility on a 3.5 acre project site. The Outpatient Pavilion facility will consolidate and centralize several outpatient surgical services to support all elements of patient care within the East Campus Health Sciences neighborhood. Specific program uses include ambulatory surgery, outpatient imaging, physical therapy, and disease specific clinics that focus on pain, urology, musculoskeletal care, breast care and infusion. The project site is located in between the Perlman Medical Offices and Moores Cancer Center. Construction is expected to begin on November 30, 2015 and completed in September 2017.

Construction of the Outpatient Pavilion Project will begin on Monday, November 30, 2015. Initial construction efforts will include fencing the project site and closing the east entrance to the Perlman Medical Office Building. All patients, visitors and staff will be directed to utilize the main entrance to Thornton Hospital as the main point of entry for all Perlman Medical Services. Health Sciences Walk will remain available during construction to allow our patients, visitors and staff to travel and access all other buildings on the campus.

Parking Impacts:

The southern portion of patient parking lot P751 will be closed permanently. In an effort to mitigate parking concerns for patients, all patient parking currently located in the south portion of P751 will be reallocated to the West Parking Structure across from the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center. Patients may utilize the West Parking Structure roof and street levels for parking. Patients may pay on exit or prepay utilizing pay stations located near the elevators at the roof and street levels. “A” permit parking will be provided on the level designated as W2. “B” permit parking will be provided on the lower level designated as W3. Overflow “B” permit parking will be provided in lot P702.

P702 Shuttle Service:

In an effort to minimize impacts to staff, a shuttle service will run daily starting on Monday, November 30 from 6:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m. The route will begin at parking lot P702, travel to the Thornton Hospital turnaround, and continue along Medical Center Drive (north) to the East Campus Office Building (ECOB) where the service will then follow the route back to P702. The service is estimated to pick up at twenty minute intervals, and at peak times will run in ten minute intervals. Please view the area map link noted below for shuttle service points of pickup and drop off.

Immediate Street Traffic, Bike Lane, and Pedestrian Impacts:
