SUBJECT:    Information Security and Privacy Concerns About New Outlook Mobile App

On January 29, Microsoft released a new Outlook email client for iOS and Android devices (i.e., smart phones and tablets). Unlike the previous version of the Outlook mobile app, which connected directly with campus email servers, this new version uses an intermediary email relay service and stores user ID and passwords and one month of e-mail in the cloud. This email relay approach raises a concern about information security and privacy. We are currently evaluating the associated risks of using this new Outlook mobile app. In the meantime, we encourage faculty and staff who are currently using or are considering using this new Outlook mobile app to visit the following BLINK page for further information. http://blink.ucsd.edu/technology/security/outlookmobileapp.html
