ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is designated as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Sexual assault is an issue that affects our entire community. The goal of SAAM is to raise awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals about their role in prevention.

Some of the key events during SAAM include:

* April 16: 4th Annual SAAM 3K - 5 p.m., Library Walk

(Preregister at: http://recreation.ucsd.edu/registration/)

* April 22: Take Back The Night- 6:15 p.m. Price Center Plaza

In recognition of SAAM, one hour of administrative leave with pay has been approved so that employees may attend a Sexual Assault Awareness Month event. Supervisors are asked to allow employees one hour of administrative leave with pay to participate in Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities, so long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.

SAAM events are organized and supported by a number of organizations and departments at UC San Diego including: CARE: Campus Advocacy, Resources, and Education at the Sexual Assault Resource Center, Women's Center, A.S. Women’s Commission, Health Promotion Services, Men Against Sexual Assault and Rape (MASAR), UConsent, and Chancellor's Advisory Committee on the Status of Women.
