SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT – La Jolla Medical Center Roadwork and ER Access Update

Project Description/Location:

As part of the Altman Clinical Translational Research Institute (ACTRI) project, Medical Center Drive will continue to have roadway improvements.

Heavy overhead construction work on the ACTRI/SCVC pedestrian bridge will be completed by May 26, 2015. Effective May 27, the main entrance to the Emergency Department will be accessible to ambulance and public vehicular traffic from Medical Center Drive north. The temporary patient arrival kiosk at the Thornton turnaround will be removed and all patients will be directed to the Emergency Department entrance.

A section of Medical Center Drive north will be closed for continued construction activities west of the Emergency Department. ECOB patients and staff should continue to utilize Medical Center Drive south for vehicular access. Pedestrian access between ECOB and Thornton Hospital will remain available along Medical Center Drive north.

Immediate Street Traffic, Bicycle Lane and Pedestrian Impacts:

Emergency Department: Effective May 27, 2015 ambulance and public vehicular access to the Emergency Department will resume using Medical Center Drive north.

East Campus Office Building: Patients, staff and visitors needing vehicle access to the ECOB facility and Lot P759 should continue travel via Medical Center Drive south as shown on the area map.

Pedestrian travel will be maintained along Medical Center Drive north at all times.

Bicyclists: Bicycle traffic should continue using Medical Center Drive south for all services west of Thornton Hospital.
