UC SAN DIEGO FACULTY AND STAFF

SUBJECT:    Cloud-Based Skype and OneDrive for Business Available for Faculty and Staff

Dear Colleagues,

In partnership with campus IT units, Administrative Computing & Telecommunications (ACT) has released two cloud-based services that enhance online collaboration, file storage and sharing: Skype for Business and OneDrive for Business.

Faculty and staff can access these services with our campus Active Directory (campus email/wireless network) sign-on credentials.

Both services are free to UC San Diego faculty and staff, and are covered under agreements with the University of California Office of the President (UCOP) for legal compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, FISMA, and Federal export control regulations.

Skype for Business makes it easy to meet and collaborate online. Faculty and staff can:
- Start an instant message conversation and add audio or video conversations instantly.
- Schedule and deliver Web conferences.
- Share a Word document, PowerPoint presentation, whiteboard, or your entire desktop with colleagues.
- Attend online meetings from your computer, smartphone, or tablet.

OneDrive for Business is a cloud-based file storage and sharing tool. Faculty and staff can:
- Store up to 1 TB of data per user account.
- Share files with colleagues within and outside UC San Diego.
- Collaborate on documents in real time using Office Online.

Skype for Business and OneDrive for Business have been enabled for all faculty and staff except for those in the Health System. The Health System continues to roll out the Skype for Business service through their own process.

Thank you to the 12 campus IT departments that helped test and pilot Skype for Business and OneDrive for Business over the past eight months.

For more information about these services, please see Skype for Business and OneDrive for Business on Blink.

ACT is working with campus partners to evaluate additional cloud technologies and will release them as needs arise.
