June 15, 2015

ALL STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Student Summer Transit Options

With the Triton U-Pass not available in summer, UC San Diego students will be able to take advantage of an alternative transit program to help meet their transportation needs. Beginning June 15, students will have the opportunity to purchase discounted Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) passes, which offer unlimited ridership on all regional mass transit bus and Trolley/light rail routes provided by MTS and the North County Transit District (NCTD), with some exclusions.

There will be two transit pass options available for purchase at the MTS College Pass rates:

· Summer Quarter option for $136 (Valid 6/16/2015 thru 9/19/2015)
· 30-day option for $57.60 (Discounted from MTS standard $72 rate)

Passes may be purchased beginning June 15 and will be available online only at summerpass.ucsd.edu. Passes will not be available for purchase at parking offices.

After purchase, students will receive a MTS Compass Card via mail, typically in 3-5 business days. The card can be activated at any time by tapping it on a fare validator. Once activated, the card is good for 30 days or for the dates specified in the Summer Quarter option.

Interested students are encouraged to purchase a pass and plan accordingly. Students who currently have Spring 2015 U-Pass stickers can continue to access regional mass transit as usual through June 30, 2015. After this date, students will need a MTS Compass Card to access public transportation or will have to use other options, including:

· Purchasing a UC San Diego parking permit ($61/Summer Session): http://transportation.ucsd.edu/parking/permits/buy.html
· Exploring commuting alternatives such as cycling or carpooling:

To support students during this transition, limited Cityshuttle service will be available this summer. In subsequent years this summer support will be discontinued. For questions or more information, please visit transportation.ucsd.edu or contact Transportation Services at TellTPS@ucsd.edu.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,
