SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT UPDATE - Automatic Load Shed – Continuing Fiber Optic Cable Replacement Work

Project Description/Locations:

The Automatic Load Shed project will continue to replace fiber optic cables under campus roadways beginning August 3, 2015 with an anticipated completion of August 5, 2015. Construction will include the pulling of fiber optic cables into the existing manhole and duct bank system. The construction area is located between East Campus Switch Station and the North Campus Switch Station. Construction areas impacted begin at East Campus Switch Station and continue northwest on Voigt Drive to the intersection of Voigt Drive and Justice Lane, near parking lot 506. The normal hours of construction will be 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Immediate Street Traffic, Bicycle and Pedestrian Impacts:

Faculty, staff and students may experience additional construction traffic on Voigt Drive, with traffic coming through campus via Voight Drive. Flagmen and signage will be posted to allow circumnavigation of construction work. Temporary traffic control measures will be in place while lanes are narrowed at construction locations as utility connections are made. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times.

Pedestrian pathways will be impacted and pedestrians may be directed to adjacent walkways during some phases of construction. Bicycle lanes will be impacted and bicyclists will be directed to use the adjacent side of the street. Bicyclists should also be aware of vehicular traffic.
