SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT UPDATE- Craft Center Abatement

Project Description/Locations:

In accordance with a Risk Assessment Report dated June 30, 2015 from the Office of Environmental Health and Safety, UC San Diego will be abating existing and known hazardous materials at the Craft Center beginning August 10, 2015 with an anticipated completion of August 15, 2015.

The Craft Center is located in the southeast corner of Muir College, immediately north of Bonner Hall. The abatement project involves select removal of flooring and roofing mastic, miscellaneous metal shelving and light fixtures, and does not include any site improvements. Normal worker hours will be 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Modifications in abatement activities may be conducted with campus approval to include possible weekend work.

Immediate Street Traffic, Bicycle and Pedestrian Impacts:

Faculty, staff and students may experience additional construction traffic on Gilman Drive, with traffic coming from La Jolla Village Drive. Flagmen and signage may be posted to allow circumnavigation of construction traffic. Pedestrian pathways will be impacted and pedestrians may be directed to adjacent walkways during abatement work. The Fire Lane between the Craft Center and Bonner Hall will be maintained within the site fence. Pedestrian, cart, and bicycle traffic may need to seek alternate routes to Ridge Walk as indicated on the map. Please view the area map at:
