ALL ACADEMIC, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UCSD

SUBJECT:    Timely Warning - Arson Series

The UCSD Police Department and Metro Arson Strike Team are investigating an apparent arson series. On September 3, 2015, at approximately 1:30 pm., the San Diego Fire Department and UCSD Police Department responded to three suspicious fires in the open lands near La Jolla Shores Drive, west of the UCSD Coast Apartments and north of the Birch Aquarium and Scripps Institute of Oceanography (SIO). All three fires were quickly extinguished.

There is no suspect information at this time. If you have any information about these fires, please contact UCSD Police at 858-534-4357 or send an email to detective@ucsd.edu. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1 (888) 580-8477.

General Safety Considerations:

* Be aware of your surroundings. Report suspicious activity (including use of open flame) on and around the open lands, hillsides, canyons and trails in the SIO area to the UCSD Police Department immediately at 858-534-HELP (4357) or 9-1-1 (emergencies).

* Be fire safe. Do not use open flame in areas with dry brush. Smoking is prohibited on all UCSD property.
