As a follow up to the October 14, 2016 bargaining update announcement,
this notice is to advise you that the UAW members have ratified the new
postdoc (PX) collective bargaining agreement:
The three major changes in the contract are:
*A new salary scale effective December 1, 2016. Postdocs who are below the new rate for their experience level, will be increased to the rate on the new scale. This will allow all full time postdocs to remain exempt employees under the new federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime rule, as well as, provide competitive salary incentives. *Duration of appointments: Previously appointments were normally one year at a time. Under the new contract, postdocs with fellowships receive appointments the length of which is equal to fellowship funding, and reappointments are two years unless certain circumstances apply such as programmatic change and funding limitations. *In order to support more family-friendly policies, postdocs will receive four weeks of paid parental leave benefit.
