ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Triton 5K and Festival

I invite you to join the UC San Diego community in supporting student scholarships by participating in the 20th annual Triton 5K and Festival on Sunday, April 10, at 9 a.m. Registration is now open at http://5k.ucsd.edu.

Participants may run or walk the 3.1 mile scenic course through the heart of the UC San Diego campus. The Triton 5K is sanctioned by USA Track and Field (USATF) and open to the UC San Diego community and the general public. All participants will receive a t-shirt and gear bag. You are encouraged to register as an individual or create a team of five or more. Several team prizes will be awarded, including recognition of the largest campus department led team. Special registration discounts are available for active military and veterans.

The Triton 5K Festival will feature entertainment, a Junior Triton Run, a play zone and hands-on STEAM activities for children of all ages. Campus departments and student organizations are invited to host a booth at the Festival and event organizers are also seeking volunteers. For more information and to register, visit http://5k.ucsd.edu. Call (858) 534-3900 with requests for alternative accessibility arrangements or accommodations.

Established in 1996 as the Chancellor’s Challenge 5K Run/Walk for Scholars, the annual event has raised approximately $3.5 million, benefiting more than 1,000 motivated and ambitious students with scholarship support.

Thank you for joining me and the entire campus community in supporting our students. I’d also like to thank the 2016 Triton 5K planning committee and tri-chairs: Mark Stickel, ’02, Sandra Timmons, ’81, and Reed Vickerman.

I look forward to seeing you on April 10 — rain or shine.

Pradeep K. Khosla
Chancellor
