ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    UC San Diego Celebration of César E. Chávez Month

UC San Diego is hosting a series of events to celebrate the life and achievements of labor leader and human rights champion César E. Chávez. The 2016 César E. Chávez Month Celebration will include a broad array of programs including a kickoff and awards luncheon, lectures and film screenings. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to participate in this important observance of diversity.

This year’s theme is “ˇHuelga! Celebrating the Delano Grape Strike 50 Years of Activism.” To view the month-long calendar of events, visit: http://blink.ucsd.edu/go/chavez. All events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.

In recognition of this annual event, two hours of administrative leave with pay have been approved for employees to attend a UC San Diego César E. Chávez Celebration event. Supervisors, upon request, may approve the use of such leave when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.

We would like to thank the members of the UC San Diego UC San Diego César E. Chávez Planning Committee for their work to coordinate these educational and celebratory campus activities. Please join us as we celebrate the legacy and contributions of César E. Chávez.
