ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is designated as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Sexual assault is an issue that affects our entire community. The goal of SAAM is to raise awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities and individuals about their role in prevention. SAAM has been recognized at UC San Diego since 2007 with efforts led by CARE at the Sexual Assault Resource Center and the Women’s Center.

Some of the key events during SAAM include:

*April 4: National Day of Action, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Library Walk

*April 12: Film Screening, “The Mask We Live In” 4:30 p.m., Middle of Muir

*April 21: Take Back The Night, 6:30 p.m., Price Center West Lawn

*April 27: Denim Day, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Library Walk

In recognition of SAAM, one hour of administrative leave with pay has been approved so that employees may attend a Sexual Assault Awareness Month event. Supervisors are asked to allow employees one hour of administrative leave with pay to participate in Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities, so long as the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties or patient care.

SAAM key events are organized and supported by a number of organizations and departments at UC San Diego including: CARE at the Sexual Assault Resource Center, Women's Center, A.S. Women’s Commission, Health Promotion Services. For more information and the full calendar of events and sponsors, please visit http://saam.ucsd.edu.
