ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Hopkins, Voigt & Scholars Drive Closures: April 30, 2016

The 34th annual Sun God Festival will be held from 12 PM to 6 PM on Saturday, April 30th. Due to the construction of event infrastructure, Hopkins Drive will be closed from 6 AM through 10 PM on April 30th. During that time, Hopkins Drive will be closed to all traffic between Scholars Drive North and Voigt Drive.

Additionally, as part of increased health and safety initiatives related to the Festival, Scholars Drive North will also be closed to all traffic between Pangaea Drive and North Point Drive from 6 AM through 10 PM on Saturday, April 30th.

Please note these additional impacts to parking and transportation to allow for the set-up and tear-down of the Sun God Festival:

-Voigt Drive will be closed to west-bound traffic between Engineers Lane and Hopkins Drive from 6 AM to 10 PM on Saturday, April 30th. Parking will be prohibited in this section of Voigt Drive during those times.

-Access to Hopkins Parking Structure, Marshall Lower Apartments Lot (P308) and Library Loop on Hopkins Drive (P309) will not be available from Voigt Drive 6 AM through 10 PM on Saturday, April 30th. Inbound traffic to those areas will be limited to event-related vehicles. Please note that outbound traffic from Hopkins Parking Structure is subject to delays.

-Spanos Loop on Northpoint Lane (P359) and the Rady Parking Lot (P357) will be closed from 8 PM on Friday, April 29th through 10 PM on Saturday, April 30th. Parking in the Rady Parking Lot (P357) will be impacted throughout the day on Friday, April 29th.

We urge all festival attendees to use an alternative transportation option to get to and from the event on Saturday, April 30th. The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System will provide bus service to the campus that day. To learn more about transportation options available on the day of the Sun God Festival, please visit:

UC San Diego community members who will be on campus Saturday but will not attend the event may want to avoid the northwest area, as road access and parking will be impacted.

If you have questions, please contact Alex Kushner, Director of the University Events Office at akushner@ucsd.edu.
