CAMPUS NOTICE

OFFICE OF THE ASSISTANT VICE CHANCELLOR-
STUDENT RETENTION AND SUCCESS

May 12, 2016

ALL FACULTY, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Relocation of the International Center, Summer 2016

This summer the International Center will be moving from its current location on Library Walk to transitional locations on campus. The move is a result of several factors including: the growing need to accommodate the number of international students, faculty and scholars the International Center serves; the interior and exterior condition of the building; and the need to acquire more adequate space for increased staffing. After careful review and consideration with many campus entities, offices will temporarily reside in three locations:

· Dean’s Office and Study Abroad: Building 409 (Matthews Quad)
· International Students and Programs Office: Student Center B
· International Faculty and Scholar Office: McGill Hall in Muir College

Special programs and services provided by the International Center and affiliated volunteer groups will also continue albeit in modified formats and new locations. This includes:

· International Center Café will commence at the Great Hall located on the Eleanor Roosevelt campus.
· Oceanids will relocate to McGill Hall.
· Space for the Friends of the International Center Resale Shop is currently being sought out so that students, faculty and staff can continue to purchase goods in support of student scholarships.

Student and faculty services will remain the highest priority during this transition period. During the summer, the International Center will keep constituents informed of the move via email and website updates. The university is studying the long-term needs of the International Center and will include these needs into its overall capital planning process. We expect that the International Center staff will reside in these locations for approximately five years.
