OFFICE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR – EQUITY, DIVERSITY, & INCLUSION

July 21, 2016

ALL ACADEMICS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Call for Applications – Associate Vice Chancellor for Faculty Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (Part-Time Administrative)

I am pleased to announce an internal search for two Associate Vice Chancellors for Faculty Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (AVC-FEDI). These positions, originally created in 2014, have been restructured and rewritten to create two new separate positions – one whose primary responsibility is education and support of inclusive faculty recruitment and retention and another whose primary responsibility is campus climate and professional development for faculty. Both are responsible for providing academic leadership and direction in advancing the University’s goal of achieving and sustaining faculty equity, diversity, and inclusion in pursuit of academic excellence through their respective areas of focus.

The AVCs will report directly to the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. This is an opportunity for innovative academic leadership in achieving and sustaining faculty equity, diversity, and inclusion, and maintaining a positive climate for faculty. If you are interested in the position, please apply through AP Online using one or both of these links:

A position description and instructions on how to apply are listed in the above links. Apply by August 18th for full consideration. If you have questions regarding the position please contact me directly (becky@ucsd.edu) or my Chief of Staff, Frank Silva at fsilva@ucsd.edu.

Desirable candidates will have demonstrated experience in achieving institutional diversity goals, knowledge of current best practices to achieve faculty diversity and equity, knowledge of diversity research, demonstrated leadership and communication skills, proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively with campus senior leadership and faculty, experience with UCSD search committee practices and knowledge of academic recruitment, promotion, and tenure policies and procedures, and a strong record of academic administrative service.

The search for the AVCs is internal to the UC San Diego campus, and candidates must hold a faculty appointment. The AVCs will serve a minimum of a two-year term at 50% time, renewable following appropriate review. Ideally, those terms will begin fall quarter 2016.
