In 2005, UC San Diego established the UC San Diego Lactation Program. Over the past decade, the program has expanded with more rooms being added, a system-wide policy was implemented, and a reservation system was created by the student organization Women in Computing. The participation rate and continued demand for new lactation facilities on campus demonstrate the importance of this service. The Lactation Program began as a collaborative effort between various key partners including Human Resources and Facilities Management, with the Women's Center taking the lead in program implementation.
As of February 1, 2017, the UC San Diego Lactation Program will officially be administered by Human Resources Work/Life.
