CAMPUS NOTICE

OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR

December 7, 2017

ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF, AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO (Excluding Health)

SUBJECT:   Red Flag Warning Update and Lilac Fire

Earlier this afternoon, a campus notice was issued regarding the Red Flag Warning for San Diego County. At least one fire – the Lilac Fire – is burning in San Diego’s North County.

We are closely monitoring the progression of the fire. The UC San Diego campus is not in immediate danger and remains open. Classes will continue as scheduled. The UC San Diego Health System hospitals and clinics also remain open.

As the high temperatures, low humidity and strong winds continue through the next few days, supervisors are urged to be flexible as employees need to evacuate their homes and ensure the safety of their family and pets.

At this time, I am approving two hours of administrative leave with pay to cover the remainder of today's normal operating hours up through 11:00am on Friday, December 8, 2017. Supervisors are asked to allow employees two hours of administrative leave with pay when the absence does not infringe upon the performance of required job duties.

For up-to-date information on the fire, evacuation centers and emergency response resources, visit the San Diego County Emergency website at http://sdcountyemergency.com

Our thoughts and best wishes are with those members of the campus community, friends and family who are affected by the fire.

Please stay safe.
