ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF, AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Bikeshare Pilot Program to Launch

UC San Diego is excited to launch a new, official bikeshare program on campus this week. The program will begin with a preview, featuring up to 50 orange-colored bikes provided by Spin, one of North America’s leading stationless bikeshare companies. The bikes are GPS-enabled, easy-to-use and will provide a sustainable way for students, faculty and staff to get around campus.

Please visit http://bikeshare.ucsd.edu for information on pricing, usage and more.

As part of the preview, usage will be tracked to determine where the highest concentrations of use are on campus. This data will inform expansion of the program, and help determine preferred bike parking areas. We hope to rollout an expanded program in winter quarter with an additional 250 bikes and may expand the program even further in the future, depending on demand and campus use patterns.

Encouraging bicycle use as well as other modes of transportation is key to our goal of becoming a carbon-neutral campus by 2025. In addition, with the physical expansion of UC San Diego, many people are looking for ways to increase cross-campus mobility. Finding a cost-effective bikesharing program is an important step we’re taking to meet these critical needs. Thank you,
