FACILITIES DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
June 7, 2017
The City of San Diego is currently working on a project to widen Regents Road between Genesee Avenue and Executive Drive to a four-lane street from the existing two lanes and incorporate new bike lanes. Regents Road provides access to UC San Diego’s East Campus including the Medical Center, parking facilities, graduate housing facilities, and the UC San Diego Science Research Park. Athena Way, a connector road between Athena Circle and Regents Road at the terminus of Eastgate Mall, was recently opened. Access onto the UC San Diego East Campus is recently available via Athena Way in advance of the finish of the Regents Road Widening project. The Regents Road project scope includes construction of new asphalt paving at the intersection of Health Sciences Drive and Regents Road, for which there will be a short-term closure.
Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:
Patient, staff and visitor as well as emergency vehicle access will remain available at all times.
Health Sciences Drive will be closed from Voigt Drive to Regents Road from 7:00 AM Monday, June 19,, 2017 through 5:00 PM Sunday, June 25, 2017. All traffic in and out of the Medical Center from Regents Road will be detoured to Athena Way. Medical Center access from Campus Point Drive will be unaffected.
