In accordance with University and Regents policies requiring that academic vice chancellors, who also are Senior Management Group (SMG) members, be reviewed every five years, I am initiating a formal five-year review of David Brenner, Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences and Dean of the Medical School.
In consultation with the Academic Senate, I have appointed a committee to conduct a review of Vice Chancellor Brennerís performance and to provide to me a report of its findings. The review committee members are:
Shankar Subramaniam, Professor of Bioengineering, Chair
The charge to the committee is to evaluate VC Brennerís performance in the full spectrum of leadership responsibilities for UC San Diego Health Sciences and the School of Medicine, including the following areas: leadership ability, decision-making ability, administrative and managerial skills, and representational ability. Some of the critical features to be addressed in the review include VC Brennerís leadership in advancing the academic quality of Health Sciences and the School of Medicine, managing the resources and budget of Health Sciences, impacting the provision of clinical and health services through UC San Diego hospitals and clinics, ensuring the vitality of the schoolís teaching and scholarship, supporting the diversity of faculty, staff and students, fostering interdisciplinary relations and expanding collaborative opportunities, and working with external and professional communities.
The review committee will solicit comments on Vice Chancellor Brennerís performance and will strive to ensure the confidentiality of all respondents. Individuals wishing to provide input should contact Chair Subramaniam at email@example.com or other members of the committee.
