ALL FACULTY AND STAFF AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    Electric Vehicle Lease and Sale Offers and Expansion of Campus EV Charging Stations

UC San Diego continues its award winning collaboration with electric vehicle manufacturers to offer affordable leasing and sales opportunities, along with expansion of the charging infrastructure on campus. This is in support of California’s and UC’s carbon neutrality initiatives and vital UC San Diego research to accomplish these goals.

Before making a new car decision, students, faculty, staff and retirees are encouraged to consider various offers available through UC San Diego’s EV lease and sale program. Recognized with a 2017 Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Best Practice Award, the program was also integral to one of our EV collaborators recently winning a Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award – the State of California’s highest and most prestigious environmental honor.

Highlights of current offers include:

• $12,000 off the MSRP on a 2018 BMW i3 or a $2,500 lease rebate on a 530e plus two years of limited free charging at EVgo stations

• $119/month lease on a 2017 Daimler/Mercedes Benz smart fortwo Electric Drive

• 36-month lease on a 2018 Ford Fusion Energi SE for $199/month, a 2017 Ford Focus Electric for $179/month or a C-Max Energi SE for $159/month

For details on these EV lease and sale opportunities and other exclusive offers, please visit http://rmp.ucsd.edu/ strategic-energy/ev.html

Most offers include HOV access as well as a California rebate up to $2,500 to eligible participants. The recently extended $7,500 federal tax credit is either calculated in the lease rates or paid directly to the eligible purchasers of an EV. UC San Diego students, faculty and staff must show a valid university ID at participating dealers to take advantage of these offers.

Anyone who leases or purchases one of these vehicles will also be invited to participate in electric vehicle user studies being conducted by UC San Diego and its research partners. This is an opt-in study, and there is no obligation to participate.

We are also excited to share that there are 129 public charging stations currently on campus with an agreement in place to increase that number to over 230 within the next 12 months. New charging features will include Wait Listing, Flex Charging and driver notifications. For more information on charging stations at UC San Diego, visit http://tr ansportation.ucsd.edu/parking/ev-stations.html

With rising gas prices and the ongoing expansion of our charging infrastructure, there has never been a better time to consider leasing or buying an electric vehicle.

Thank you for your interest in supporting ongoing research and the campus’ sustainability initiatives.
