SUBJECT: | Grand Opening of The Hub, Resource for Student Concerns with Food and Housing Stability |
The Hub enthusiastically invites you to its Grand Opening events on
February 6, 2018.
A new resource for UC San Diego students, The Hub prioritizes Basic
Needs security for students to ensure personal wellbeing and opportunity
for academic success in the convenience of a centralized location. Basic
Needs includes access to nutritious food, stable housing, and financial
wellness resources.
According to recent data:
• 5% of UC San Diego undergraduate students reported not having a place
to live at varying times of the year (UCUES Survey 2016)
• 42% of UC San Diego undergraduate students reported skipping or
cutting the size of meals because there wasn't enough money for food
• UC San Diego undergraduate and graduate students visited the Triton
Food Pantry over 10,400 times in the 2016-17 academic year (Triton Food
Pantry, 2017)
• 29% of UC San Diego graduate students reported food insecurity
(Graduate Well-Being Survey, 2016)

Presentation: Advancing Basic Needs, A Secure Vision for the University
of California
2:30PM-3:30PM. Location: The Forum (Price Center East, 4th Floor)
UC System Basic Needs Co-Chairs, Ruben E. Cañedo, UC Berkeley and Tim
Galarneau, UC Santa Cruz; will discuss the UC System-wide Basic Needs
Report
(http://ucop.edu/global-food-initiative/_files/food-housing-security.pdf) they spearheaded, which represents the largest and most comprehensive
study of Basic Needs at the University of California.
