CAMPUS NOTICE

OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR

October 16, 2018

ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF, AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

Subject:    Know Your Rights – Immigration Enforcement on Campus

One of my highest priorities as UC San Diego chancellor is to cultivate and maintain a campus environment that is safe and welcoming for all members of our community, regardless of immigration status. With that in mind, I want you all to be informed of your rights and the steps to take in the event federal immigration agents come on campus to enforce the law.

Please note, the procedures and information listed below relate only to immigration enforcement activities. Federal immigration agencies are periodically on campus for non-enforcement activities, which can include recruitment and other activities related to normal immigration visa processing.

1. If you are advised that an immigration officer is expected to enter, will enter or has entered the campus to execute a federal immigration order, please notify UC San Diego Police at (858) 534-4357 as soon as possible.

2. All students, faculty and staff responding to or having contact with an immigration officer executing a federal immigration order, should refer the entity or individual to Policy and Records at (858) 534-3393 for purposes of verifying the legality of any warrant, court order or subpoena.

3. If you are or may be subject to an immigration order or inquiry on campus, please contact the following:

a. Students – Contact Undocumented Student Services (http://undoc.ucsd.edu) at undoc@ucsd.edu or 858-822-6916 or the International Students & Programs Office (http://ispo.ucsd.edu) at istdents@ucsd.edu or 858-534-3730. b. Faculty and Staff – Contact the International Faculty & Scholars Office (http://ifso.ucsd.edu) at ischolars@ucsd.edu or 858-246-1448.

Unless permitted by federal and state education privacy laws, the designees above are prohibited from discussing your personal information–including immigration status–with, or revealing that personal information to, anyone.

For more information about your legal rights in an immigration enforcement situation, please consult the UC Immigrant Legal Services Center (https://law.ucdavis.edu/ucimm/) and read this “Know Your Rights” link (https://go.ucsd.edu/2P4dyZJ).
