ALL STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:    All Campus Commencement Student Speaker Competition

All undergraduate and graduate students registered to receive a UC San Diego degree in June 2018 are invited to apply for the role of the student speaker at this year’s All Campus Commencement, to be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 16 at RIMAC Field.

A panel of campus leaders and student representatives will select a student to deliver an inspirational message (up to 5 minutes) to fellow graduates on the event’s theme, “Making our world a better place by protecting human rights and securing civil liberties.” In alignment with this theme, Rep. John Lewis, often called “one of the most courageous persons the civil rights movement ever produced,” will offer the keynote address at the UC San Diego All Campus Commencement ceremony.

Student speaker applications will be accepted Feb. 21 through April 2, and candidates are encouraged to include examples of their service activities in their applications. If selected to move forward in the process, candidates will audition during the first two weeks of April by presenting the five-minute speech they propose to deliver at the All Campus Commencement ceremony. The selected student speaker will be announced in mid-April.
