ACADEMIC SENATE MEMBERS

SUBJECT:    Extension of the General Campus Compensation Plan

I am pleased to announce that UC Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Michael T. Brown has agreed to continue the Negotiated Salary Trial Program (known at UC San Diego as the General Campus Compensation Plan or GCCP) for an additional four-year period, effective July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2022. A fifth transitional year may be approved following a joint Senate-Administration Taskforce review to determine whether the trial program will become permanent or allowed to expire.

In order to secure the extension, campuses agreed to collect common applicant information to be used to review the program throughout the extended pilot period. New metrics to be gathered include detailed information about each participating faculty member’s research group and graduate student support. Additional faculty, fund manager, chair and dean certifications have also been added to the request form.

Allowable external fund sources have been updated. The intent is for faculty to use their own external fund sources that have been generated by research, teaching or outreach activities. Going forward, general funds, including startup, cannot be substituted for external funds to pay the negotiated portion of the salary. Your fund manager will be able to guide you on the appropriate use of funding during the application process.

Your divisional dean’s office will soon send a call for 2018-19 GCCP proposals along with the new form. Faculty who wish to participate will be required to submit a proposal which must be endorsed by the department chair and divisional dean and approved by the Executive Vice Chancellor.
