SUBJECT:    CONSTRUCTION ALERT – Mid-Coast Light Rail Transit Project: Campus Point Drive and Voigt Drive Closure

Project Location/Description:

Construction activities for the Mid-Coast Light Rail Transit Project are continuing and the project team is constructing the elevated Light Rail trolley track throughout campus. Impacts to campus roadways are continuing with the removal of the elevated, temporary wood and steel support structure called Falsework over Campus Point Drive and Voigt Drive. Falsework removal in this area will occur over three consecutive weekends:

Friday, April 13, 2018 @ 9:00 pm through Monday, April 16, 2018 @ 5:00 am - Voigt Drive, east of Campus Point Drive will be fully closed
Friday, April 20, 2018 @ 9:00 pm through Monday, April 23, 2018 @ 5:00 am - Campus Point Drive, south of Voigt Drive will be fully closed
Friday, April 27, 2018 @ 9:00 pm through Monday, April 30, 2018 @ 5:00 am - Voigt Drive and Campus Point Drive will be closed intermittently for striping and concrete k-rail removal.

During the road closures the temporary support structures over Campus Point Drive and Voigt Drive will be removed and the overhead permanent concrete rail system will remain in place. The project team will also remove the majority of the concrete barriers along the road and will re-stripe the traffic and bike lanes as well as the pedestrian crosswalks.

Immediate Parking Lot, Street Traffic, and Pedestrian Impacts:

Patient, staff and visitor as well as emergency vehicle access will remain available at all times.

There will be intermittent road closures on Campus Point Drive (South of Voigt Drive), and Voigt Drive (East of Campus Point Drive). Traffic conditions will intermittently change during the process to accommodate construction activities, so please be aware and watch for changing conditions. A construction flagging crew will be actively managing traffic flow during times of impact and marked detours will be provided for both vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians during the full road closures of Voigt Drive and Campus Point Drive. Bus stops and parking lots in the area will remain available and accessible at all times.

In an effort to minimize confusion and alleviate traffic congestion during peak travel times, weekend work and construction sequencing have been carefully incorporated in the construction effort. Please consider using Health Sciences Drive and the newly opened Athena Way as an alternate entrance/exit from the Medical Center.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve the UC San Diego experience.
