ALL ACADEMICS, STAFF AND STUDENTS AT UC SAN DIEGO

SUBJECT:   Crisis Support for our UC San Diego Campus Community

We are deeply saddened to report that the person who leapt from a bridge at UC San Diego yesterday died of injuries sustained following the jump. The San Diego Police Department has not released the identity of the person pending notification of the family.

We understand that members of our campus community may have been emotionally impacted and understandably shaken by this traumatic incident, especially given the recent tragic events relating to suicides reported in the media.

We would like to take this opportunity to reach out to our students, faculty and staff with a reminder that there are many support services available for those who may be struggling with depression or suicidal thoughts, or who may be affected by this tragic event.

. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides mental health support for students. To contact CAPS, please call 858-534-3755 or visit them in room 190 of Galbraith Hall.

. For campus staff and faculty, the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) offers one-on-one counseling sessions. Contact FSAP at 858-534-5523.

. Health System staff and faculty are encouraged to call HEAR at 858-657-6795 or 858-657-6799 or OPTUM Health at 1-866-808-6205, code UCSDMC.

There are also national and local resources available if you or someone you know are having thoughts of suicide.

. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: Call 1-800-273-8255 (TALK) or go to http://SpeakingOfSuicide.c om/resources for a list of additional resources.

. San Diego Access and Crisis Line: Call 1-888-724-7240

It is important for us, as members of the UC San Diego campus community, to demonstrate compassion toward each other during moments like these. If you know a member of our campus community who may be experiencing distress, please share with them the resources listed above.
