SUBJECT:    Applications for 2019 Pilot Project Grants

The Larsson-Rosenquist Foundation Center of Research Excellence (LRF MOMI CORE) awards pilot funding (MOMI Seeds) to enable innovative research projects that generate promising new data and help facilitate the acquisition of extramural funding in support of human milk and lactation research.

LRF MOMI CORE is pleased to announce the availability of MOMI Seeds Funds for 2019. Three to five awards for approximately $50,000 each will be given. Applications will be accepted until October 15, 2018, and funds will become available starting January 1, 2019. UC San Diego faculty members who are eligible to serve as Principal Investigators may apply.

Applications need to fall under one of the following research priority areas:

1) Effects of breastfeeding or intake of human milk components on gut health
2) Developing and applying analytical technologies for human milk research
3) Research related to social, educational, and knowledge management aspects of human milk and lactation
4) "Milk Moonshot"

Applications will be evaluated by a scientific review committee based on scientific merit as well as:

1) Relevance to annual research priority area
2) Innovation
3) Feasibility
4) Research approach: study design, analytical and statistical methods
5) Novelty of research collaborations (new collaborations across research disciplines are encouraged)
6) Potential for future extramural funding
